Timing Intercourse to Choose the Gender of Your Child

While there are no guarantees when it comes to natural gender selection, there are a few things that can be done to increase the likelihood of having a little boy or a little girl. If you are specifically wanting a boy or girl, it certainly doesn’t hurt to try a few natural techniques. You may not get the gender you want, but it sure is fun trying and the result is the same regardless – a happy and healthy baby, and that is what really matters. In order to understand how the timing of when you have sex can impact the gender of your child it is important to look at two different things – first, how ovulation works and second, how the differences in sperm affect this timing. Let’s look at ovulation first.

Every month, there is a window of fertility that is approximately five days long. Three days prior to ovulation to one day following ovulation are the best times to conceive. Remember, the egg only has 24 hours of viability, and that sperm can live for up to five days in the reproductive tract. Each woman is different however, but this is the generally accepted “window of fertility” that occurs every month. So, now that you’ve narrowed it down to five days of the month where you are fertile, it’s time to figure out how to time your intercourse to choose the gender of your child. Let’s take a look at the differences in sperm that carry the chromosomes that decide gender. A sperm carrying the Y chromosome will result in a boy if it successfully fertilizes the egg. A sperm carrying the X chromosome will result in a girl. There are some main differences in these sperm that are important to understand. The Y sperm are very small, but also very quick and agile. The main downside is that they don’t live very long. The X sperm are bigger and much slower, but on the flip side, they live a lot longer. Keeping this in mind, now let’s move to timing. In order to have a boy, it is vital to allow the Y sperm the time they need to reach the egg as quickly as possible. This means that you need to time intercourse on the day that you ovulate. The Y sperm won’t live much longer than that 24 hour period that the egg is viable and you need to give them that chance to meet the egg before they expire. On the other hand, if you want to have a girl, you should time intercourse to two to three days prior to ovulation. During this time, the Y sperm will have died out, leaving the slower but more durable X sperm behind. This greatly increases the chances that you will have a girl. There are many other factors that can effect the gender of your child such as diet, and even the sexual position that you use, but timing it properly can help you naturally select your child’s gender.

Dealing with a sick baby is often the most scary and stressful moment a parent can ever faced. If you could only take away the pain that your baby is experiencing, you will in no doubt do it; but we all know that a baby getting sick is unavoidable, and the least that we can do is to do everything within our capabilities to help make our babies feel better.

If your baby develops a fever, is not interested in feeding,is vomiting, has watery diarrhea, and develops a skin rash, the best thing to do is to contact your pediatrician. It is strongly advisable that you should be alert at all times for these symptoms because your baby is still not capable of speaking and muttering of what he is feeling; you should observe your baby at all times for any physical and behavioral changes. You should always be prepared in case of an emergency.

How to know if it’s a fever already?

A temperature of 37.5 degrees celcius is considered a slight fever, but body temperature typically varies during the day. It is usually lowest in the morning, and highest in the afternoon. Normal temperature also differ from one person to another. Babies usually have a higher normal temperature than adults.

Observe your baby’s temperature daily. If he has persistent high temperature, or if his temperature is erratic (rising and dropping for 3 consecutive days), you should consult your pediatrician because your baby has a fever.

How to safely treat a fever?

After consulting your pediatrician, there are some steps you can do to hep bring the fever down:

Medication: Follow promptly your pediatrician’s advice concerning fever medications. Do not alter or change it for it would result to prolonged infection.

Fluids: Make sure your baby gets enough water and fluids (milk) everyday. This will help prevent dehydration and cool the body.

Warm him up: Most of the times, babies with fever also get the chills. Use a baby blanket for warmth and hold your baby for extra warmth and comfort. Remember not to put your baby in the crib with a blanket, for it could lead to suffocation.

Cool off: Keep your baby at rest in loose, light cotton clothing, and give him a lukewarm sponge bath to help lower his body temperature.

It is always important to monitor your baby closely. Never disregard even a slight change in your baby. Whenever in doubt, it is always best to call your pediatrician immediately.

Throw away any crib bumpers that come with your baby bedding, because those bumpers are unsafe and can raise the risk of SIDS. Once your child begins to climb, crib bumpers become a safety hazard. Bumpers aren’t sufficient, though they look good with baby girl or baby boy beding.

When your child is ready to sleep in a crib all night, remove all of the stuffed pillows and blankets; even though they’re cute, they do pose a risk of choking. It is alright for a child to have toys in the crib as long as they are not falling asleep.

Crib bedding is a wonderful addition to your baby’s nursery, but keep in mind that matching comforters and pillows are not safe or functional for an infant. A minimalist approach to selecting the bedding for your child is a safe bet, and if there is any uncertainty you can always consult a professional pediatrician.

Allowing your child to choose new pillows, sheets, and comforters for their toddler bed is an excellent way to celebrate this childhood milestone.

Coleslaw – Why I Love It

Coleslaw is a delicious salad, I don’t like to consider it a salad, consisting mostly of shredded raw, white cabbage. It sometimes includes carrots, too. There are tons of variations of the recipe which include the addition of other ingredients, such as red cabbage, pineapple and apple. Coleslaw is always mixed with some sort of dressing which traditionally consist of vinegar though modern cole slaw often contains mayonnaise, milk, or creme fraiche. A variety of seasoning may be added. The dressing is allowed to settle on the blended ingredients usually for several hours before being served. It is served chilled and probably tastes best if the ingredients are allowed to sit together.

Here is a little history on coleslaw. The term “coleslaw” arose in 1794 as a partial translation from the Dutch word “koolsla” meaning “cabbage salad”, which obviously fits. It was commonly called cold slaw in England until the 1860’s when “cole” meaning cabbage was revived and used. “Cole” originated from the Latin colis meaning “cabbage”, and is the source of the Dutch word as well. The term coleslaw is a late 19th century term, which originated in the United States.

This is my favorite coleslaw recipe.

Ingredients: 1 1/2 Pound (cored, quartered, shredded) Cabbage, 3 Tablespoons Vinegar – Cider, 2/3 Cup Mayonnaise, 1 Small (grated) Onions, 2 (grated) Carrots, Seasoning – Salt.

Cooking Directions: 1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the cabbage with the vinegar and salt. Grate the carrots and optional onion directly into the bowl. Add the mayonnaise and toss well.

2. The coleslaw can be served now, but it is much better, more melded, if allowed to stand and tossed occasionally for 1 hour.

Regardless of what you think of coleslaw, you will love this recipe. And the great thing about coleslaw is that you can easily modify it to suit your taste. For example, if you like mayo, you can add mayo.

My 8 Reasons For Making Home Made Ice Cream

I get asked a lot of questions about making my own ice cream. Besides the fact that I love it and enjoy it, I have found over the years that there are many more reasons that I stopped buying and started making ice cream. Here they are. I hope I can help turn you into an ice cream maker.

1. My family and I love ice cream. We eat a lot of it all year round not just in summer. On a regular basis I found buying ice cream adds up, and on a monthly grocery bill, well lets just say I got a real shock. When I make my own, I make it a lot cheaper (but just as tasty, even tastier) than store bought. So I save on my food bill.

2. By making my own ice cream, I reduce my food miles. (embarrassingly my kids told me about that one). My children come home from school asking me what am I doing to save their planet. Well, making ice cream means that I am not using fancy packaging, tubs and useless cartons that it comes in, and I have not paid for it to travel from several hundred miles away to my door. Everything I put in my ice cream, I get locally. You can too.

3. I get to know exactly what is going into my kids mouths. There are no additives or preservative in my home made dessert. Only natural goodness no artificial rubbish.

4. Allergies are not a problem. More and more friends and family these days seem to suffer from some sort of allergy or another. Well I can usually just leave out what they are allergic to, and replace it with something else.

5. I bring my ice cream over to friends, or families houses for dinner. It beats spending a fortune on flowers. I bring along the dessert which we can all enjoy together.

6. Getting the kids involved is a great way of involving them in what they eat. It sparks an interest in how things are made, not to mention it can keep them and their pals quite on a wet afternoon.

7. For me it can be a great way of getting in some sneaky nutrients into their diet. They love fruit on their ice cream in funny shapes, I sprinkle nuts over it, and I even sprinkle oats on it sometimes.

8. I try most of the time to make it lower fat than you buy. I use half and half or light cream instead. Great for the kids, but helps me and my diet out too.

So there you have it. The many reasons I make my own ice cream. I hope I have been able to convince you to have a go.

The last part of putting together a nursery, though the most enjoyable, is decorating! Anyone can decorate with Noah’s Ark or Pooh, but it starts a child off on a special path when the nursery is filled with moons and stars, or dragons, or even pictures of all the people who love him or her. If you raise your baby with creativity, he is likely to imitate you.
